» Lost and Found
Passengers who misplace personal belongings or experience baggage delivery
issues while traveling with Air Canada can report the incident through airline
or airport Lost and Found services. Prompt reporting and accurate information
assist in locating and returning lost property.
Onboard Lost Items
Items left onboard an Air Canada aircraft are collected by cabin crew after
passengers disembark. The items are transferred to the Lost and Found office at
the arrival airport.
Passengers who forget an item on the aircraft must submit a report through the
airline’s online Lost Item form with details such as the flight number, travel
date, seat number, and a description of the missing item. After submission,
passengers receive a confirmation email with a tracking reference for follow-up.
Items Lost at the Airport
Items lost inside airport terminals - including lounges, check-in halls,
security checkpoints, restaurants, boarding gates, or baggage claim areas - are
handled by the airport’s Lost and Found department. Passengers must contact the
airport authority directly if the item was lost in a public area of the
terminal.
Items lost in dedicated airline areas such as a Maple Leaf Lounge or an Air
Canada service counter can be reported through the airline’s lost property
reporting system.
Lost or Missing Checked Baggage
Passengers whose checked baggage does not arrive on their flight must report the
issue immediately at the Baggage Service Office located in the baggage claim
area. Airport staff create a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) that records
details about the missing bag.
The PIR reference number allows passengers to track baggage through the
international WorldTracer. Airlines continue tracing the baggage across their
network and partner airlines until it is located.
Baggage that remains unrecovered after 21 days is classified as lost, and
passengers can submit a compensation claim according to international aviation
rules such as the Montreal Convention.
