Port Moresby International Airport

Port Moresby International Airport (POM), also known as Jacksons International Airport, is the main international gateway to Papua New Guinea and is located approximately 8 km from the center of Port Moresby. As the country’s largest and busiest airport, it serves domestic and international flights connecting Papua New Guinea with destinations across Australia, Asia, and the Pacific region. The airport is the primary hub for Air Niugini and PNG Air.

Facilities

The airport consists of separate international and domestic terminals connected by a covered walkway. Facilities include check-in counters, immigration and customs services, baggage claim areas, airline lounges, duty-free shops, retail outlets, restaurants, cafés, ATMs, currency exchange services, car rental counters, and passenger assistance services. Free Wi-Fi is available in selected areas of the terminals. The airport also provides security monitoring services, VIP facilities, and dedicated parking areas for passengers and visitors.

Airlines operating at POM include Air Niugini, PNG Air, Qantas, Philippine Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and other regional carriers. The airport offers domestic services to cities such as Lae, Mount Hagen, Goroka, Hoskins, Kavieng, and Tari, alongside international routes to Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney, Manila, Singapore, Honiara, and other regional destinations across the Pacific.

Transportation

Travelers can access Port Moresby city center and surrounding districts via taxis, hotel shuttle services, private transfers, and rental cars. Several major hotels near the airport provide scheduled shuttle services for arriving passengers. Travel time between the airport and central Port Moresby is 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Port Moresby International Airport continues to serve as Papua New Guinea’s primary aviation hub, supporting both domestic connectivity and international travel for business, government, mining, tourism, and regional trade.
