A visa is not required to transit through Azerbaijan if travelers do not intend to leave the international transit area.

For travelers planning a brief stay in Azerbaijan, transit visas are available. These visas have a validity of 30 days and allow for a stay of up to 5 days, costing just $20 USD for all nationals. This option is the most economical for those visiting Azerbaijan for a short duration.

Transit visas are exclusively issued through Azerbaijani embassies or consulates abroad. Unlike other visa types, travelers do not need visa support from Azerbaijan to apply for transit visas. Occasionally, embassies may request proof of onward travel or a visa for the next destination after Azerbaijan. Visa validity begins from the entry date specified in the application form, providing a 30-day window to utilize the 5-day transit period.

However, transit visas are not universally available and are primarily limited to countries bordering Azerbaijan. Embassies in the UK and most EU countries, for instance, do not issue transit visas. In such cases, the only alternative is to apply for a tourist visa, either electronic or standard.

If the transit visa does not include notes or stamps indicating non-stop passage, the visa holder may stay in Azerbaijan for a maximum of five days. Transit visas for 5 days cost $20 for single entry and $40 for double entry, and are valid for one month from the date of issue. The application process typically requires an application form, passport photo, and a photocopy of the passport.
