Travelers transiting through Burundi without intending to leave the international transit area do not require a visa. However, if they wish to exit the airport, they can apply for a Transit Visa, enabling a stay of up to 72 hours for a fee of USD10.

Previously, citizens of all nations entering Burundi via Bujumbura International Airport could acquire a visa upon arrival until April 30, 2015. Presently, an entry authorization letter from Burundi authorities is mandatory for obtaining a Visa on Arrival (VOA).
