Conditions for Application

Here are the key points regarding the 72-hour visa-free transit policy in China:

1. Entry Requirements: Passengers must have a confirmed onward ticket and a valid visa (if required) to a third country or region. The 72-hour period typically starts from 00:00 the day following entry, counting from the scheduled arrival time to the departure time. It's advisable to adhere to the "strict 72 hours" to avoid any issues.

2. Single City Transit: Flights must stop in only one Chinese city, and passengers must enter and exit from the same city. However, exceptions apply in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Guangdong, where the 144-hour visa-free transit is in place. Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan are considered separate regions for transit purposes, allowing passengers to enjoy the policy if their flight route passes through the USA – Beijing – Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan.

3. Flight Transit Only: The policy applies only to passengers using flights for transit. Other modes of transportation, including single-trip flights, are not eligible.

4. Departure Airport: Passengers are generally required to depart from the same airport they arrived at, except in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu. In these regions, passengers can enter or leave from any port in Shanghai, Nanjing Lukou Airport, or Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport.
