Germany Transit Visa

AirlinesOffice.com  »  Transit Visa  »  Germany

Germany serves as a key transit hub in Europe, and most travelers passing through German airports do not require a visa. However, nationals of certain countries need an Airport Transit Visa for Germany. These countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Turkey.

Exceptions apply for nationals of the listed countries if they:

- Possess a valid visa for the UK, Ireland, Japan, Canada, USA, Romania, Bulgaria, or Cyprus.

- Are partners or children of EU/EEA/EFTA nationals and hold a British “Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National.”

- Hold Diplomatic Passports.

- Hold a valid visa for an EU Member State, Canada, Japan, or the United States of America, or have returned from these countries after using the visa.

Please note that an airport transit visa does not permit overnight stays or leaving the airport. It only allows for a short stay in the international transit area. Travelers should confirm these details with their airline or travel agency.

At the following five airports in Germany, travelers can stay in the International Transit Area without a visa:

1. Cologne / Bonn
2. Düsseldorf
3. Frankfurt / Main
4. Hamburg
5. Munich
