A Kyrgyz transit visa allows for a single entry, typically for a duration of three days, although it may be extended to five days in some cases. This visa is granted based on an invitation from an organization in a third country, an existing visa to a third country, or a valid air/rail ticket to a third country.

Previously, if the destination country belonged to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and a valid visa had already been issued, obtaining a Kyrgyz transit visa was not necessary.

However, starting from the year 2000, several CIS countries mandated that all foreign travelers passing through their territory must possess a visa, leading Kyrgyzstan to adopt similar regulations. The previous "seventy-two-hour rule" no longer applies.
