The Schengen visa grants permission for a foreign individual to stay not only in Latvia but also in other Schengen member states, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. This visa, indicated by a sticker, specifies the duration of stay.

There are two types of uniform visas: Type A and Type C, which vary depending on the purpose of entry.

Type A visas are designated for traversing the international transit zones at Schengen member state airports.

Type C visas are issued if an individual intends to visit or transit through one or more Schengen member states.

Airport Transit Visa

This visa, known as an airport transit visa, is necessary for individuals from certain countries who require a layover at an airport in a Schengen member state or whose flight stops at a Schengen member state's airport while traveling from one non-Schengen member state to another.

Typically, citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Sri Lanka, as well as individuals holding travel documents from these countries, require an airport transit visa to remain in the international transit zone.

However, there are exceptions to this requirement, which can be clarified by consulting the consular officer of the relevant embassy for specific cases.
