You don't need a visa to pass through Rwanda as long as you're staying in the international transit area. However, if you plan to leave the airport during your transit, you'll need a Transit Visa, which is valid for a maximum of 72 hours. To get this visa, you must have a confirmed ticket out of Rwanda to another country or suitable plans to depart within 72 hours.

Extending the Transit Visa is only possible in exceptional cases, where a new visa may be granted for another 72 hours.
