In most cases, a visa is not required to transit through the United Kingdom
if you remain within the international transit area. However, certain
nationalities are subject to visa requirements, and you may need a visa for
transit through the UK.
To apply for a transit visa, you must:
- Be in transit to another country with sufficient funds and the intention to
continue your journey
- Demonstrate your ability to enter that country
- Show that your sole purpose for visiting the UK is transit
Apply for a Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) if you will be changing flights
in the UK without passing through UK border control. DATVs are valid for up to
24 hours.
Apply for a Visitor in Transit Visa if you will be passing through UK border
control but departing the UK within 48 hours.
You can also apply for a long-term Visitor in Transit Visa if you have a need to
transit through the UK frequently over an extended period.
