To apply for a transit visa, you must:

- Demonstrate your ability to enter that country
- Show that your sole purpose for visiting the UK is transit

Apply for a Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) if you will be changing flights in the UK without passing through UK border control. DATVs are valid for up to 24 hours.

Apply for a Visitor in Transit Visa if you will be passing through UK border control but departing the UK within 48 hours.

You can also apply for a long-term Visitor in Transit Visa if you have a need to transit through the UK frequently over an extended period.
